I would say that the need to manage the transitions in workplace culture is one of the toughest challenges. The uninterrupted connectivity to the world wide web is altering the complete workplace culture as it is creating a steep rise in social media usage among employees and thus bringing technology-backed communication into the workplace. Needless to say, when online employee activities happen without proper surveillance it can result in unmanageable consequences.  Today, every organization is facing the challenge of managing the online activities of the employees and safeguarding the business reputation.

Workplaces are now embracing automation and artificial intelligence. Employees connect using technology without face-to-face interactions. Many organizations have their workforce spread across the globe and the teams are connected through virtual tools. Often, huge projects are handled through such teams, where strategies are devised and decisions are made completely through online collaboration or social media platforms.

Today employees and managers keep an active presence on social media for both personal and business reasons. Social media and the internet are reducing the distance between organizations, employees, and customers. Companies are increasingly using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and others for marketing, sharing information about products and services, and increasing the reach of the brand.  It is also becoming a useful customer service tool for answering complaints. However, the online activities of each employee will leave a digital footprint that acts as business branding and can create varied effects on the business’s reputation.

Hence, organizations must realize the importance of digital transformation in business, adapt to the growth of digital platforms in the workplace and address the associated challenges.
